Welcome to Visual Computing Research Group at Centre for Multimedia and Network Technology (CeMNet), School of Computing Engineering (SCE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Our research focuses on new theories, algorithms and systems for intelligent processing and understanding of visual data such as images and videos. Our current research activities focus on four areas:
Internet Vision and Social Media, including Large Scale Image and Video Search and Retrieval, Social Context-based Media Content Analysis.
Event Analysis from various video sources including Surveillance, News Videos and User-generated Videos.
Biometrics, including face recognition and tagging, human gait recognition.
Machine Learning for Vision, including Manifold Learning, Bilinear and Tensor Subspace Learning, Transfer Learning, Semi-supervised Learning.

March 2010 Dr. Xu visited Tsinghua University, Peking University, Automation Institute and Computing Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Microsoft Research Asia, and Zhejiang University. Dr. Xu delivered six invited talks to introduce our recent work on transfer learning during the visit.
January 2010 Dr. Yi Ma from UIUC and Dr. Xilin Chen from Computing Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences visited our group.
December 2009 Dr. Yong Rui from Microsoft China Research and Development Group and Dr. Changsheng Xu from Automation Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited our group.
September 2009 Congratulations to the Ph.D. student Mr. Duan Lixin for being awarded the prestigious Microsoft Research Asia Fellowship. Again, only two winners from Singapore Universities received the Microsoft Research Asia Fellowship awards this year. This is also the second consecutive year which a student from our group has won the award.
July and August 2009 Prof. Ramesh Jain from University of California, Irvine, Prof. Dan Schonfeld from University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Qi Tian from the University of Texas at San Antonio, Dr. Wenjun Zeng and Dr. Xu Han from University of Missouri, Dr. Lei Zhang from Microsoft Research Asia, and Dr. Kaiqi Huang from Automation Institute of Chinese Academy of Science, visited our group.
June 2009 Dr. Xu visited Tsinghua University, Automation Institute and Computing Institute of Chinese Academy of Science, Microsoft Research Asia, and University of Science and Technology of China.
May 2009 The Ph.D. student Mr. Duan Lixin received a student scholarship from organizers of 26th International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML 2009). ICML, the top conference in machine learning, held in Montreal, Canada, from 14 to 18 June 2009. |
